Medical Bills
How would you feel if you had a procedure done at the hospital and your bill was $292,643? Not only did the hospital room cost $72,624, but the patient received this bill on Thanksgiving. The family was celebrating being thankful for the surgery their family member received at Cedars-Sinal Hospital, now to have a huge bill to pay. Even though this medical bill a large, it is definitely not the largest. A $1,196,246 bill was given to a family who's child was in the Neonatal ICU (NICU) for one month and only had one surgery. Why should medical services be so expensive and you wonder why some people do not like surgery. These bills are outrageous at any stand point, and should be looked into. Both of these patients even had insurance that took out part of the payment. And to get a huge bill on Thanksgiving? What a great thing to be thankful for. What do you think about his?

I can not believe the prices that are put on surgeries that save lives. These families already have to cope with a loved one being sick, and then with the huge expenses. The surgeries are keeping people alive, but are priced like houses. They should not be millions of dollars. There should be help the families can receive, but really the price put on these lives is simply outrageous.
ReplyDeleteOf course it will not be a cheap bill, as they are using expensive medical equipment and medicines to treat the patients, but it should never be this outrageous. I'm pretty sure they only charge this much because the doctors wouldn't perform any surgeries if they weren't receiving enough in return, and for possible hospital additions or renovations. I would love to see what the money actually went to.
ReplyDeleteI understand hospitals' crazy medical bills, but I do agree, it does not benefit the family paying them positively. Most people in need of expensive procedures need these procedures because they are less fortunate than most and are not exposed to ways of preventing themselves of diseases or viruses. Hospitals are supposed to be places where people can be treated and relax until they fully recover from wherever sent them there in the first place. Sadly, most people cannot relax while recovering due to their major worries about how they will possibly pay for all of their medical bills. I think that doctors should start doing medical cases pro-Bono like lawyers do. That may solve some peoples' poverty issues and it would be a very good thing to the community.
ReplyDeleteHospital bills can most definitely be very high. These large bill have drastic affects on families that are struggling to make ends meet. Most likely, these families have already been through a lot with sickness and worry, and the last thing they need is the stress of an over the top bill. I would like to see charities that help these people, and have doctors cooperate with these struggling patients.
